Harvest Festival

Dear Someone,
 

         It's autumn time. I love when you can smell the crisp leaves. Walking through the leaves delights my soul. With each crunch giddy joy leaps from my heart. The trees have been reluctant to change colors, or for that matter shed their leaves. I will have to be patient.  I love the spices of autumn. I associate nutmeg, cinnamon, and all spice with autumn. Some of my favorites things are homemade succulent peach cobblers, pies,  savory pumpkin seeds, and of course pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I can’t wait to have access to an oven. Each Fall I generally find myself getting sick. I have had death in my throat, walking pneumonia, and of course various colds. Being in London did not save me from the autumn curse. I am sick again. No need to let it damper my spirits. I still love fall in sickness and in health.  

Blue Pumpkins

            Miss Blauer and I spent the weekend In Brighton with a family friend. I loved being in a home environment again. Last week our boiler was broken. No heat, and cold showers. I was grateful for a scalding hot shower. It was a delightful escape. I wouldn't be surprised if  you get the impression that all I do is find ways to escape the center, which do some degree would be a correct accusation. Anywho we were able to help decorate for Thanks Giving. She invited us back down in November if we would like to decorate for Christmas. Her invitation is tempting. It wouldn’t be Christmas if I didn’t at least help put up one set of decorations. Oh dear I’ve digressed. Back to the Harvest Festival. Saturday morning we woke up early and went to the pumpkin patch, followed by a craft fair. I was overjoyed. Apparently in England we carry more varieties of squash. Blue pumpkins are known for making the best pumpkin pies. My pumpkin extravaganza was a wonderful trade for the normal harvest festivities at home. Nothing can compensate for J Fin's cooking. I will have to write him of my intentions to dine with him and his dear wife once I return. Instead Miss Blauer and I enjoyed traditional English cooking, mash, peas, and sausage stew.   

The Pumpkin Patch

              This week should be pretty wonderful. I am going to Wicked on Wednesday. Seems rather appropriate for Halloween. Thursday, and Friday we will be in Wales. Saturday we are having a Halloween cupcake party. I don't know what to dress up as. No costume, no cupcake. My hair is getting uncontrollably long here. I could be eve for Halloween without a problem. As a child I remember my Grandmother embroidering the Garden of Eden. I was extremely perplexed by Eve's lack of clothes. I had to have my Grandmother reassure me that she would make Eve's hair long enough so that she could be modest. Well my hair is just about that long now. Unfortunately I can see that costume not complying with the Honor Code. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I will just have to figure something out. I hope you had a productive Monday!
